Recently, At Lumen Brothers Electric Company

Hey there Lumen Brothers and Sisters,

While we’ve been a bit quiet on the social media front lately, rest assured that your trusted Lumen Brothers have been hard at work meeting new clients and helping to make safe and beautiful, the homes of Frederick, Md. We’ve worked on some fun projects recently including the largest service upgrade we’ve taken on, as a company thus far. This project was definitely something to write home about! The building itself was built pre-Civil War and the kitchen addition on the back was built just after the war. The service we replaced delivered power to 4 apartments and 1 “house / common areas” panel in the basement.

The original electrical service equipment was mounted onto the rear, exterior of the building and was a hodge-podge of electrical gear ranging in era from around the 1930’s to the 90’s. Josh and I, being nerds of electrical history, were happy to take home some of the historic electrical gear, much to our wive’s chagrin. We replaced the historic equipment with a brand new Square D 5-Meter stack and new overhead conduit. Due to the size of the overall service, we needed to install main electrical service conductors large enough to handle the overall demand of the building. Let me tell you, these conductors were incredibly thick and difficult to maneuver but after a lot of huffing and puffing, and a bit of much-needed help from some of our friends, we got the job done. We’re happy with the final product, as it’s a massive improvement that should ensure the electrical safety of this beautiful building for the next 100 years.

Other than the occasional major service replacement, we’ve been moving our small company forward, little by little, while enjoying the process. In the past month, we’ve taken on lighting installations (including some amazing designer chandeliers), ceiling fan replacements and installs, smaller service replacements (200 amps), sauna outlets and some diagnostic/repair projects, all while intermittently wrapping up a major 4-unit renovation. It’s been a busy month and we’re grateful for it. Outside of business, Josh and I have been doing our best to spend quality time with our families. With summer vacation right around the corner, were both planning a fun-filled summer for our daughters and our families. While we love the work that we do, our families are the reason that we do it, so we want to make sure we’re spending as much time with our girls while they’re still young.

So what’s coming up this year for our happy, little company? Well, this year, we plan on purchasing a new work van to take the place of our small 2004 Tacoma. That little truck has pulled its weight, and then some, over the past 3 and a half years. It’s time to retire our hard-working old friend and get a new, bigger van on the road so we can more effectively provide our clientele with quality electrical service. We’ll be posting some content to our social media platforms during the “fit-out” process, where we design the interior of the new vehicle to function as a work van, as well as a roving podcast studio. That’s right, we’re planning to do some traveling later this year and we’d like to be able to use the new van to help us record interviews with the other tradespeople we meet. If you haven’t listened to our podcast, check it out at our website: www.modernelectricianpod.com or just search “Modern Electrician Podcast” wherever you listen to podcasts.

Other than that, we hope this is another year filled with meeting good people and helping them accomplish their electrical goals. We’ve met so many awesome humans in the past 3 1/2 years and we’re looking forward to many more years of the same. Thanks to all of you for being a part of our community and choosing our company to be your local electrical team-of-choice. We can’t thank you enough.

All the best,

Doug & Josh
